Modes Of Transportation
-
Basic mode of transportation are:
1.Land
- Roadway
- Railway
2.Water
3.Air
- Highways
- Railways
- Airways
- Waterways
- Continuous flow system
-
Highways:
- It provides maximum service for one and all.
It provides maximum flexibility for travel by reference to route, direction, time and travel speed.
It provides service to the doorstep. - Other modes depend on it.
- It requires a small investment for the government.
- Motor vehicles are cheaper than other carriers like rail locomotives and wagons.
- It saves the time for a short distance.
- High degree of accident due to the flexibility of movement.
-
Railways:
- The transportation along the railway’s track could be advantageous by railways between the stations both for the passengers and goods, particularly for long-distance.
- It relies on road transport i.e. it acts as a road feeder system.
- The energy required to pull a unit load from the rail to the unit spacing is only 1/ to 1/5 of that required by the road.
- Safety
-
Airways:
- Fastest among all other modes.
- More comfortable.
- Time-saving.
-
Waterways:
- Slowest among all other modes.
